Description
The delivery of this project through the Sport In The Community Programme sees free sports coaching / physical activity sessions delivered on existing Multi Use Games Areas (MUGA’s) in areas of high social deprivation, or to address issues like anti-social behaviour. The aim of this project is to ensure local people can participate in community life, foster better relationships between local residents through the use of Sport and Physical Activity. The programme also addresses a need for better access to improved community/leisure facilities and perceived insufficient provision of social play and sports facilities. Young people have sufficient access to programmes, including youth activities and outreach work which offers divisionary activities alongside healthy living advice and support services (eg: advice about drugs and alcohol abuse, and dangers of addiction).
Participants from all venues came together across the year most notably over 260 participants took part in the ‘MUGA Games’ event in Portadown Peoples Park in Summer 2016.
